Starting big school and my tears
This week the youngest of my 5 children started school. After 6 weeks of school holidays I was cheering for my lot to return the regular school routine. Aside from the early morning routine and my terrible attempt at being organised with uniforms, lunch boxes and school books. I realise that public schools are often crying out for being under funded but the huge list of items that each parent from Kindy to year 6 was required to bring and donate was ridiculous.
Our list included: • 6 glue sticks • 2 erasers • Library bag • 2 boxes of tissues • 4 rolls of paper towel • 2 pump soaps • Paint shirt • 2 packets of white board markers • 1 clean old sock to clean white board? • 2 packets of highlighters • A4 display folder • Ear bud head phones
Maybe this is the norm? It certainly has changed a lot since my first child started school in 2003. Each day with Kindergarten has gone well and I miss my baby daughter each day. It feels too soon and she looks too little to start. I don’t think I’m ready for her to grow up, even though she is. I asked her what she has been doing at big school and the reply was playing and I’ve made 5 friends already. I am excited for her and sad that she has entered the next stage of her life. 5 whole years ago I had my last baby and I just realised that’s it, no more babies for me. The finality of it all. It feels just like when my first baby started school. Ironically, miss 5 has the same kindy teachers that my first child had. That has definitely made this transition for me a lot easier.
